It helps to include your iPhone or iPad model, its iOS or iPadOS version, which window it was (the date of the daily window, or Practice and its level), and what happened. A screenshot is welcome. Please do not send passwords, payment details or anything else personal that is not needed to answer you.

This address belongs to an email-forwarding service (SimpleLogin), which passes your message on to the developer. Questions and answers

How do I play?

  1. Pick a brush, ruby (red), cobalt (blue) or honey (gold), then tap a pane to paint it. The Clear brush, marked with an X, empties a pane again.
  2. Two panes that share an edge may never have the same colour.
  3. The numbers beside each row say exactly how many cells of each colour that row holds. A ? means that row has no clue. Panes with a small pin are already coloured for you.
  4. When every pane is right, light floods through the glass and the sun rises. Undo steps back one move, and Restart returns the window to its pins.

Every window has exactly one answer, and you can reach it by reasoning alone, with no guessing. How to play in the app shows these rules at any time.

When is there a new window?

Every day. Each day has one daily window: Monday's is gentle, and the windows get harder through the week, with the weekend trickiest. Finishing the daily window adds to your streak, and the finish shows your current and best streaks. Take as long as you like; there is no timer.

What are Practice and the Gallery?

Practice gives you extra windows whenever you want more, at Gentle, Steady or Tricky. Tap New window for another one. Practice windows never count for streaks.

The Gallery keeps every daily window you finish, with its date. Tap one to see it lit again.

Is my progress saved?

Yes, automatically, on your device. Suncatcher saves the window you are working on, your Practice window, the daily windows you have finished, your streaks, your Gallery and your settings inside the app, so they survive closing the app or restarting your device.

There is no account and no online save, so your progress does not move to another device on its own and cannot be recovered by the developer. If you back up your device with iCloud Backup or to a computer, iOS may include Suncatcher's saved progress in that backup, and restoring the backup may bring it back.

How do I delete my progress?

Deleting the app deletes everything it saved: touch and hold the Suncatcher icon, tap Remove App, then Delete App. You can also go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage (or iPad Storage) > Suncatcher > Delete App. If you reinstall, you start again with an empty Gallery and no streak.

Note that Offload App keeps the app's data, so your progress would come back on reinstalling. Older iCloud or computer backups may still contain it until those backups are replaced or deleted.

How do I turn the music, sound effects or haptics off?

Open Settings inside Suncatcher (not the Settings app of your device) and use the Music, Sound effects and Haptics switches. Each one works on its own, and your choice is remembered.

Suncatcher also respects Silent mode, and it lets your own music or podcast keep playing. Haptics are felt only on devices that support them, such as iPhone.

Are there in-app purchases, ads or an account?

No. Suncatcher is free, and the daily windows, Practice and the Gallery are all included. There are no in-app purchases, no ads, no subscriptions and no account.

Do I need an internet connection?

No. Suncatcher never connects to the internet and plays fully offline. You only need a connection to download it from the App Store.

Which devices can I play on?

iPhone with iOS 17 or later, and iPad with iPadOS 17 or later, in portrait or landscape. You play by touch: tap to paint.

Is it the same puzzle as the Stained Glass website?

Yes. Suncatcher's daily window is the same one you can play free in a browser on the Stained Glass website. Your progress in the app and on the website are separate and do not sync.

A window seems impossible, or something looks wrong. What can I do?

Every window can be solved by reasoning alone. Check each row against its clue, and look for two touching panes that share a colour. Undo steps back, and Restart returns the window to its pins. If you still think something is wrong, please email the window's date (or Practice and its level), a screenshot and what happened, so it can be looked at.

What does Suncatcher do with my data?

Nothing leaves your device: Suncatcher collects no data and has no analytics or tracking. See the privacy policy for the details.
